Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is the light rail system that covers much of the bay area. It extends from as far south as SFO (on the Peninsula) and Fremont (in the East Bay) to Richmond and Martinez in the north. The core of the system is the Transbay Tube from West Oakland to the Embarcadero Station, which was opened in the late 1970s.

BART fares are determined by distance traveled, with fares starting at $1.25 for travel between adjacent stations. BART tickets can be purchased at any BART station using bills, coins or credit/debit cards. In addition, high value tickets can be purchased at a 6.25% discount on the BART website.

A ticket is required for both entry to and exit from the system. The exit gate will calculate your fare based on distance traveled, and it won't let you out of the system if your ticket doesn't have enough money on it. However, at every exit point, there are "Add Fare" machines that allow you to add money to your ticket.

Stations

Only key transfer stations between agencies are shown here. A complete list of lines, or even just agencies would be overwhelming. Please include a full list of connections for each station on it's own page, like Balboa Park Station has.
