Cha Ya is a vegan Japanese restaurant in Berkeley. I hear that there is also a vegan Japanese restaurant in San Francisco with the same name. Cha Ya means "Tea Store" in Japanese, but in spite of this, there are only three or four types of tea on the menu.
The dining area is very small, but this gives the restaurant a personal feel.
One great thing about Cha Ya is its bathroom. It has what is almost certainly the cleanest bathroom in Berkeley.
Cha Ya gets mixed reviews. It's been recommended as a restaurant that offers highly authentic, extremely flavourful food. Others find the broths a bit bland and the prices a bit high. Service has been regarded as alternately poor and attentive.
