Ghirardelli Square is a great place to have dessert after dinner at fisherman's wharf or pier 39. There is also a cable car turn around just down the hill. While it is a bit pricey, there are always free samples of chocolate at the door, and the ice cream sundaes are delicious. There are also special events and attractions as well as live music and street performers.

Ghirardelli Square has been a San Francisco landmark for more than 30 years. It officially opened as a multi-level restaurant and retail destination on November 29, 1964.
