Napa Valley

Napa Valley is known for its vinyards and quaint bed and breakfast inns. It is located about 50 miles to the Northeast of San Francisco, and its proximity makes it a popular vacation spot. Activities available include vinyard tours, hot air balloon rides and [Shopping Guide|shopping]].

Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz is a beach town located 30 miles to the Southwest of San Jose. It is known for its beaches and its boardwalk, and it is also home to the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Monterey

Monterey is perhaps best known for its world class aquarium. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is open year-round and contains many exhibits, with an emphasis on exhibits featuring sealife that live in Monterey Bay. Other popular activities include Whale Watching, the Seventeen Mile Drive and Golfing.

Spots Farther than 150 Miles

Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains about 180 miles from San Francisco. In spite of this distance, Tahoe is a popular destination for vacations in both the summer and the winter. Activites available in or araound the Lake Tahoe Basin include skiing, gambling, camping, Rock Climbing and shopping. If you are driving to Tahoe, try to avoid heading up on Friday afternoon as the traffic between San Francisco and Tahoe can be terrible.

Yosemite

Yosemite is a US National Park located 200 miles to the West of San Francisco. It is home to a number of popular hikes and climbs.
