Nestled between Bongo Burger and Brewed Awakening, this math department favourite offers lunch for just about $5. The sandwich line can be long, but if you decide to fill up with one of their hearty soups instead, you can cut to the front of the line after filling your bowl.
Besides a daily chowder offering (corn or clam depending on their whim), they have a different soup special for each day of the week -- broccoli cheese, split pea, tomato barley, etc. Small soups are around $3, large soups are around $5. The soups are uniformly good mom's cooking sort of quality.
To round out your meal, you may choose to have a cookie (75 cents) or a mufffin ($1). The cookies are rather generously proportioned, very chunky, and more crumbly than your average cookie.
They offer booth and table seating. Atmosphere is cozy, with dark wood-plank walls and an old-fashioned iron stove as decoration. If you can't find seating inside, then walk downhill a block and a half to campus and have yourself a picnic.
Service is friendly, and the older man who cleans the tables is incredibly efficient.
